Project: Designing #MyfutureROM
Scope: Re-design part of the Registry Of Marriage
Location: Singapore Registry Of Marriage (ROM/ROMM)
Total area: 264 sqm
Integrating the existing Fort Canning Park, the Registry of Marriage (ROM) combines two environments—a place of marriage and the sound of nature— to create an everlasting love typology as the heart, and soul of ROM. ROM embraces life to flow fostering love and creating memories as a whole.
A distinctive open entrance of ROM leading towards the park has incorporated natural stones and water curtain that flows down on both sides of the facade. This brings out the sound of nature that vibrates and lingers throughout the atmosphere. The water curtain is the star feature of the building.
The entrance walkway consists of the original natural features, which is the waterfall, along with many different planting landscapes. It is then space planning and introduces spatial elements into the space itself.
The idea of having giant steps towards and upwards, to the fort canning part to link the pathway where people can sit and play. The stairs derived from linear shapes of regular stairs manipulated to create the big climb.
Derived from a block of symmetrical cuboid, which then divided into smaller pieces, which give a sense of randomness. Then, arranged into many different forms, which creates a new way, which includes the asymmetrical, datum principles.
